The Stadler EC250 "Giruno" presented today at Bussnang is an electric train developed for Swiss Federal Railways. The convoys purchased by the federal administration are 29 with an option up to 92 others.
Composed of 11 elements, the train is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 250 km/h and has a length of 202 meters. In total, two convoys can be coupled with a length of over 400 meters that allows the transport of more than 800 passengers.
Able to travel under three voltages (3 kV, 25 kV and 15 kV), the EC250 has pantographs of 1,450 and 1,900 mm. The 8 traction motors are able to develop a maximum power of 4,720 kW.
Internally, the convoy is characterized by rows of 3 seats in first class and 4 in second class, moreover there is a space for bicycles and suitcases. There are also seating plugs, Wi-Fi access, separate men / women bathrooms and "silence areas".
Convoys, whose first specimen was presented last year at Innotrans, were initially purchased with the intention of replacing the ETR 470 on the route between Milan and Basel /Zurich.
